Literature Text

Trina Vega: Trina is an attention seeker who will do anything to be noticed. Her parents never gave her any attention because they were never around, and when they were they only paid attention to Tori and her musical talents.Tori Vega: Tori is a perfectionist because her parents held her to such high standards, so she feels she has to be great at everything. She’s also very co-dependent, because her parents held her hand through school so that they could focus on her and her music and gave her all her hearts desires.Singent VanKleef: Singent was a foster child, his parents abandoned him as a child, giving him some abandonment issues and maybe even PTSD. He’s such a “creeper” because he wants to be loved, something he’s never felt from having bounced around from house to house including multiple abusive homes.Cat Valentine: Cat is so aloof because she is suffering through emotional, sexual, and potentially physical abuse from her brother (who has been referred to in the show as “crazy,”) She is on anti-depressants which make her so perky, and her brothers abuse has caused her to revert back to a childlike state to help cope with what she’s facing.Cat‘s Brother: Possibly schizophrenic who abuses his family, mostly directed towards Cat though. He abuses them as his way of coping with the voices and hallucinations. His parents want to get him help, but they are too afraid of him to do anything (think of Vicky’s parents in The Fairly OddParents)Robbie and Rex: Rex was a birthday present to Robbie given to him by his great grandfather. Shortly after this, the elderly man had a stroke and died. Robbies parents were very neglecting to him, never really paying attention to him, so all Robbie had was Rex. Robbie turned Rex into a friend, but also created him based off of everything that Robbie wanted to be. Possibly a plea for attention from his parents, maybe they’d notice him if he were cooler.Sikowitz: Hippie. He was a teen in the 70’s and didn’t want or respect authority so he joined the Haight-Ashbury movement, which basically he was a hippie teen living on the streets with a bunch of other hippie teens. He heavily did drugs such as Acid, LSD, Speed, and of course Marijuana, while also minorly doing Heroine and possibly Cocaine on occasion. Most likely has HIV along with many other STD’s from multiple unprotected sex partners, and is possibly the father to many children. After the 70’s and 80’s, he couldn’t keep a job, so he moved back in with his mom and took some college to get a teaching degree. He most likely lied on his resumee to get a teaching job at Hollywood Arts. Odds are he never stopped doing Marijuana and Speed, but he definetly doesn’t do them as heavily as he used to.Jade West: Jade is the only child of rich parents who don’t have much time for her. As a child they tried to mold her into this proper girl that she hated, and her scary personality now is her act of rebellion. She never really made friends as a child, because she moved around so much, so she never learned how to interact with people and still doesn’t know how to, which explains her outward hostility. She is especially mean to Tori in the show. At first she saw Tori as a threat to her relationship with Beck (which was bad as it was and had no hope.) Then she started becoming even more hostile because she started to get feelings for her and can’t deal with the fact that she’s a closeted lesbian. She just forced herself into thinking that she needed Beck especially when they were together, to mask her feelings for Tori. Now that Beck and Jade are no longer together, she’s even more hostile because now she almost has to deal with those feelings because her cover up is no longer there. When she and Tori were forced to go on a date in a recent episode, Jade was excruciatingly hostile, but became more civil as she’s beginning to try to accept these feelings she doesn’t understand.Andre Harris: Andre is the normal one with an interesting past. His mom got knocked up in her later years of high school, and it was against his dads beliefs to desert her. So he stuck around. His mom was given the ultimatum of “keep the baby and drop out or get rid of it and you can stay living with me.” Andre’s mother kept the baby, dropped out of high school, and was kicked out. His dad dropped out to take care of her. Andre’s parents raised their son on paycheck to paycheck from their jobs at the gas station, which was the only job they could really get without a highschool degree. They wanted to do more for their son, though, and started selling drugs as a side job. At this time, Andre was around the age of probably 11 or 12, so he understood and knew what was going on. It wasn’t long before Andre’s parents were caught selling drugs, and were taken to prison, so Andre lives with his grandma. His outlet is through his music, and he is a stronger person because of this.Beck Oliver: Beck’s dad was pushing his dreams on his son, trying desperately to live bicariously through him. Beck became tired of his dad being so forceful, and the whole “This is my house, you live by my rules,” atmosphere, so he moved into the RV in his parents driveway and became independent.
